By the looks of things we have a bunch of division games this week which will either jumble the standings or further solidify each team's placement for the post season. Any way you slice something is getting cut. Here goes nothing...
Beefcake v NJ Bulldogs - Battle of the D's. The Dudes versus the Douches. Beefcake is playing hard and playing loose. Won a squeaker against Rock Nation and look forward to making the "A's" even if they get bounced in the first round. The Bulldogs have developed the strategy of trying to cry, harass, bully and moan their way to victory. So far it has worked twice (silverbacks and Jaguars). Sadly, I think they cajole their way to another win this week.
McM v Ivy Inn - Intriguing match-up here. McM took one on the chin against the Raiders. Ivy Inn had a bye. Not sure how that rest will work in their favor. Not sure how getting waxed like Rain Dance will work for McM either. Normally, in times like these I go with the better quarterback. However they are so closely matched that I look at other factors. I like speed and energy and McM has plenty.
Jaguars v Silverbacks - Jaguars had a huge offensive outburst at the expense of the Eagles last week. In a battle of the retirement homes the Silverbacks came up a tad short against the Old Dogs. Like most things in athletic life experience only helps if you're good enough to keep things close. Jaguars get it done.
KGB v Wildcats - Both teams lost spirited games against their traditional rivals. Both games ended on sour notes. With the worst of it behind them the teams look to start new streaks. For KGB they're hoping to avoid a three game slide. The Cats are just trying to get healthy in time to make a deep run into the playoffs. Even with a depleted roster the Cats are just too dangerous to lose to KGB.
Dynasty v Seahawks - Dynasty has done a wonderful job of beating on the dregs of the MCFFL. Seahawks have done a wonderful job of being one of the dregs of the MCFFL! You see where this is going don't you? Dynasty wins!
Giants v Titans - These two teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum right now. The Giants are coming off of their third consecutive win, while the Titans are coming off of a level of child abuse none of us expected. Styles make fights and these two are certainly a contrast in styles. While I love what the Giants do, I just don't think they do it well enough to beat the Titans this week.
Falcons v Panthers - The Falcons have been nothing short of surprising. Victories that alluded them a season ago have landed squarely in their collective laps. Even with the loss of Jeremy Eyre the Falcons found a way to secure a W last week. The Panthers went 1-1 last week. They found themselves on both ends of an ass whooping beating on the Benchwarmers and getting sobered up against the Wildcats. Since the Falcons keep doing it I'll keep picking them to get it done.
Lions v Overachievers - Lions did what they were supposed to do against the Bulldogs a week ago. What is amazing for those in the know is that the Lions are getting greater participation than they have in the past. The O's played their conference Super Bowl and managed a one point victory over a crestfallen Saints. On paper this is evenly matched, but since football is an emotional game I see the O's being flat against a Lions team motivated to finally exercise that beast.
Spartans v Raiders - Not sure what to expect from the Spartans. They have certainly been more competitive than they were a season ago. Sudden roster infusions will do that to outcomes. The Raiders finally found the very unfamiliar win column with a dominating effort against McM. The Spartans are NOT McM so I fully expect the Raiders to come away with another win over the battered and bruised Spartans.
Warriors v Saints - Cousin Brucie has the Warriors loving their own smell. After dropping the first two games of the season the Warriors have now rattled off four in a row. The Saints are on the opposite end of it. After starting 4-0 they have now lost their last two by a combined total of 7! In spite of that this game should be a good one. Ty Hill will not be in attendance and Brandon Feinstein has seen a doctor for an ailing back. Both teams need this game to sustain their run and have an easier path to in the playoffs. I say the Warriors keep it going.
Chargers v Blend - Chargers got the regular season win against the Wildcats that had eluded them. Blend has been chugging along to a 5-1 record to this point. Since the advent of his schedule change the Chargers have been without John Nini all season long. Couple that with Shaun Jelin's recent ankle injury and the Charlies are looking much more vulnerable. I say the winning streak ends here this week.
Team USA v Swavey Customs - Flash versus substance. Team USA carries the flag, wears the shorts and the shirts. Half the time one cannot even tell if Swavey is at the fields. That is until they start playing. In spite of the Patriots success as a new team I cannot see them beating Swavey. That is unless you get THIS GUY
Old Dogs v Crimson Tide - Our 8 AM table setters. Old Dogs finally got their first win of the season against the Silverbacks. The Tide struggled before putting the Spartans away. No time advantage for the Tide this week, but there is a decided talent advantage for Pat Miller and Co.
Old Dogs v Eagles - The Old Dogs should be nice and warm for this game against the Birds. If the Eagles were smart they would come early and scout the Old Dogs. Don't want to be on that long list of guys that Kevin managed to make look silly. Old Dogs take a bit out of the birds.
Eagles v Rock Nation - After taking on the Old Dogs the Eagles get to turn their attention to Rock Nation. Rock Nation has struggled to field a consistent team this season. The good thing for Rock Nation is that on the sideline they have the MCFFL version of Coach Al. All he needs is a throwback Penny Hardaway jersey. What was I talking about? OH I have to pick a winner! We're ALL winners this week!
Quick Set v Benchwarmers - Both teams lost in a big way last week. This week they get a chance to make amends. I know next to nothing about the benchwarmers other than they have not fared so well. Same could be said for Quick Set whom I know intimately. I still believe Quick Set is better than their record. Hold on phone is ringing... Rock Nation wins this week. For that matter so does Quick Set.
