Double headers: Ducks, Alter Ego, Saints & Knights
Field 1
8am Hardville v Spartans - Appears that field 1 will now and forever be known as the drive-by field. Unless you're playing on it. Between the two teams there is a total of 4 wins, one of which is a forfeit win. With two weeks left to play they're both playing for seeding in the B's. I like both groups, but I like Hardville more. For what that's worth!
9am Old Dogs v Commission - drive-by game #2. The Old Dogs played well enough to lead at halftime of their game against HMC before succumbing to the depth of their roster. I recently learned that the Commission is a short name for the Commission on Why We Keep Dropping Passes. Ball security is a real problem for these guys. I've watched them a lot this season because Marquis is my favorite player in the league. I'll watch them again. They will win, but it won't be me (pretty).
10am KPC v Warriors - Maybe field one isn't so bad after all. This is an important game for both teams. KPC is currently the eighth seed. The Warriors currently have their ticket for the B's punched. The winner will control their own destiny. Much like Commission both of these teams have struggled to execute. I blame the quarterbacks for all of the drops. Clearly their faults. The most consistent team will earn the win on Sunday. The Warriors will come to play.
11am Irish v Ravens - speaking of coming to play. When was the last time the Irish has been to a game with a full roster? They managed to forfeit against a team that four players show up! Surprisingly they still have a chance of making the A playoffs. The Ravens are 4-4 in their first season. They too have a realistic shot at making the A's. That shot becomes even more realistic with a win over an Irish team that may or may not show up.
Field 2
8am Venom v Blue Bulls - competition steps up on field two as the upstart Venom squares off with the surging Blue Bulls. Both teams came away with unexpected wins against seemingly superior foes. Both teams also have realistic expectations to win their divisions. Hard to put a finger on the Blue Bulls success, but Venom has clearly focused their efforts on a plus offense. The game is a coin flip. I have a feeling that Venom is going to pull this off, but the Blue Bulls have the better defense AND surprise each week. I've got the Bulls pulling it out.
9am You Gon Learn Today v Those Guys - both lost last week. YGLT was decimated by injuries. Those Guys? Hello? Anyone tell me what went down? Doesn't even matter. Those Guys are too focused, too fast, too dedicated, too savvy, and too experienced to let a little one point against a good team put a damper on their championship aspirations. Those Guys will be teaching a class on resilience to YGLT this week.
10am Lions v Miami - the origins of this game are hilarious. A couple of weeks ago Miami was taking an "L" against the Saints when John Feldhaus decided that his team was out of reach and came off the field. At that time the Lions were on the sideline of that game when words about the superiority of the other were exchanged between Feldhaus and Oh-Zee with both sides saying, "ask for the game!" Ask and Ye shall receive. I expect plenty of chatter and histrionics (look it up). I also expect Oh-Zee to live up to his end of the conversation when he said Miami won't win and he'll pick off Feldhaus anytime he test his side of the field. This is where you want to be at 10!
11am Dynasty v Falcons - How did this game get over here? We talked about this! This should be a drive-by game. OK OK fine it is here. Dynasty threw seven picks against the aforementioned Lions in a 55-0 whitewashing. The Falcons lost a close one score game against the new and improved Raptors. For has tough things have been I feel like the Falcons are head and shoulders better than Dynasty. They get to prove it this week.
Field 3
8am Ducks v Alter Ego - gangster! That is the only word I could use to describe what Alter Ego did to Spartans last week. The captain of the Spartans is friends with the guys from Alter Ego. The night before the game they were talking trash about the game. My favorite part of the story is when not one member of Alter Ego showed up to the game. Happens all the time. Ducks won on the last play of the game last week. They will win this game and won't need the last play of the game to do so.
9am Ducks v Elite - this isn't going to go well. The Ducks will not have their entire roster and Elite is ELITE. Charlie will not need to carry the team this week as Elite clinches a playoff berth.
10am Saints v GW Tire - REMATCH. Last season these two teams faced off in the finals. GW Tire led at halftime only to watch the Saints pitch their balls on their way to a repeat league championship. The two teams have followed up that game by being the two best teams in the league. With two losses between them these teams have stifled offenses with their defenses and torched defenses with their offences. Brandon just celebrated his 30th birthday on Thursday so I fully expect him to celebrate in true Feinstein fashion. GW Tire will celebrate the win after that.
11am Saints v Knights - yikes. Knights are a good team not a great team. Based on what I have seen the Knights are just short of the tools necessary to stay competitive. There is a small chance that they catch the Saints hungover enough (like Brandon) to steal a game. I don't see it, but I have been drinking!
Field 4
8am Suicide Squad v Raptors - If Suicide Squad is going to make the A playoffs this is where it has to start. They're 3-5 coming into week 9 and a loss against the Raptors will make them the odds on favorite to win the B's. The Raptors beat the Falcons to stay a top of the division. They beat the Irish earlier this season, but I think Suicide Squad will come into the game WOKE. Another week of HOPE for the Squad.
9am Alter Ego v Exquisite - Charlie thinks Alter Ego will show up! My prediction is that they won't. Even if they do show up it will be like they didn't show up and exquisite will win either way and secure at least a 500 record and keep their hopes for an A playoff berth alive.
10am Knights v Bulldogs - something has to give. Both teams lost last week. The knights loss to the Ravens was quite unexpected. The Bulldogs have officially melted down. After starting the season 3-0 the Bulldogs have rattled off 5 consecutive losses. In addition to losing on the field they will lose Bryan Turner once the season is over. Good luck on your future endeavors. Good luck in the game, but luck will not be enough to beat the Knights this week.
11am Average Joes v HMC Elite - We were supposed to play these guys in Burlington a couple of weeks ago. Alas it was not to be as HMC dropped out of Burlington and the world was robbed of the outcome. Now we get to play one another this week with the Joe's HANDLING the Commission while HMC had to come from behind to beat the one win Old Dogs. I expect we will get their very best this Sunday. They're not impressed by HMC.
